About our play...
The Greek-speaking Theater School Epi Skinis presents in co-production with Anelixis Productions the sensational play "Medusa" by Konstantinos Palilis and Maria S. Apostolatos.
After three successful years in Greece with SOLD OUT responses, he is coming to Zurich for three shows in Greek with English subtitles.
The work, influenced by Greek mythology as well as by modern reality, deals with the female nature as an individual of the social whole. It presents the difficulties and problems faced by a modern woman, while at the same time demonstrating the family circle, adolescence and adulthood, as people face it leading to conclusions about how they should be understood.
A Few Words...
Alice is a girl entering adolescence and her stepfather gradually begins to approach her sexually, until he repeatedly rapes her. She does not tell anyone what is happening to her and tries to find solutions to escape. She concludes that the only way to stop him is to study in a country town and get away from her rapist stepfather. At the same time, she decides that, since she cannot punish him for his actions, she will take revenge on men who, while they have everything (wife, family, job, money), are looking for the confirmation of a young woman. Driven by the myth of Medusa who stoned men, Alice decides to "stone" them, taking from them the stability that gives men confidence and power over women. She manages to escape and carry out her plan, but her stepfather follows her and continues to abuse her. Her role as "Medusa" turns her from victim to perpetrator and her new life, culminating in love, makes her realize that she no longer wants to take revenge, but to live like any other girl.
The play is supported by the General Secretariat of Demographic and Family Policy and Gender Equality.
